How To Keep Bugs Out Of Your Pantry !!
ChannelCarrie's KitchenDescription from the creator
Even if you keep your kitchen very clean, and do not leave food or oil, uncovered, on your stove-top and counters, bugs may still try to invade your kitchen!
Because I only had a little bit of flour, in my pantry, I brought a new bag home from the store. A week or two later, when I opened the bag, I saw some very tiny tan colored 1/4 inch (6 mm) long specks that were moving! This type of thing happens so rarely, that I cannot remember the last time that I opened a package and found bugs. (It probably has been 20 or more years ago.)
Since that bag had been in my pantry for a week or two, I checked everything else in my pantry for bugs. I had one unopened bag of sugar that the bugs had invaded. Thankfully, I had white flour, whole wheat flour, cake flour, oats, white rice, brown rice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, powdered confectioner's sugar, superfine baker's sugar, popcorn and corn meal all in airtight containers and bags. If those items had not been stored in airtight containers, the bugs would have infested them. All of that food would have been wasted and thrown away!
Years ago, I purchased some of my storage containers from Rubbermaid & Tupperware. I also wash and reuse large plastic and glass containers that nuts, peanut butter, pasta sauce and other foods come in. This is an economical and practical way to recycle and reduce waste. I also fill some of these saved containers with food gifts that I give to family and friends. (Several relatives save containers for me, because they are hoping that I will fill them with something tasty.)
I hope this little story and video is helps you to protect the food in your pantry and inspires you to recycle usable containers.

I put the entire bag of flour, with bugs, into an airtight bag. I did the same with the infested sugar. Most foods have a date, on the package, that the food should be sold or used by. So, when I returned the flour and sugar to the store, they could see that they were not old bags. The store manager apologized and gave me new bags of flour and sugar.
