How to keep your Goldfish alive for years

Your kids bring home a goldfish from a school carnival. The fish dies in a few days. Your kids are crying. You buy a new fish, it dies, your kids cry. Repeat. I learned how to maintain the fish tank to keep the goldfish alive. The trick is to replace several gallons of water per week with filtered (not tap!) water that has sat out for a day or so to reach room temperature.

It's September 2020 and these fish are still alive and well!
