In this video, we’ll cover essential winter driving skills to help you stay safe on snowy and icy roads. Fresh snow has created slippery conditions. Here we demonstrate how to handle your vehicle when faced with snow-covered roadways. Using a set of pylons in a parking lot, I walk you through a series of exercises designed to teach you the fundamentals of winter driving, such as braking, acceleration, and steering on slippery surfaces.

You’ll learn what happens when you over-accelerate, over-steer, or over-brake in snowy conditions. You understand how to respond when ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) engages on ice and snow. I’ll explain the normal sensations when ABS kicks in—such as grinding, shuddering, or pedal pushback—and how to maintain control while stopping.

Additionally, I highlight the importance of space management: leaving enough room around your vehicle to handle unexpected skids or sudden braking, preventing collisions with other vehicles. If you’re new to driving in winter weather or want to improve your skills, these exercises and tips will help you drive more confidently and safely.
