In brief

Build a small, autonomous Arduino-powered car that detects and avoids obstacles using an ultrasonic sensor. Perfect for beginners learning robotics, motor control, and sensor programming. The project uses basic components like an Arduino Uno, motors, and a motor driver shield.

Key steps

  1. Connect the ultrasonic sensor to the Arduino to detect obstacles ahead
  2. Mount DC motors with wheels and a servo motor to the acrylic chassis
  3. Wire the motor driver shield to control motor direction and speed
  4. Power the setup with two 18650 Li-ion batteries and a DC switch
  5. Upload the obstacle-avoidance code to make the car move and turn dynamically

Questions & answers

What components are needed for this project?

Arduino Uno, motor driver shield, 4x TT gear motors with wheels, ultrasonic sensor, 2x 18650 Li-ion batteries, jumper wires, acrylic sheet for chassis, and a DC power switch.

Can this project be built without a servo motor?

No, the servo motor is listed as a required part for this specific obstacle-avoiding car design.

Description from the creator

Hello Guys, In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to make a DIY Arduino Obstacle Avoiding Car.

Arduino obstacle avoidance robot is a small autonomous robot 🤖 that can move on its own and avoid obstacles 🚧 in its path. It uses an Arduino microcontroller 🧠, an ultrasonic sensor 📡 to detect objects, and motors ⚙️ with a motor driver 🔌 to move.

How it works:
The robot moves forward ⬆️
The ultrasonic sensor checks the distance 📏 in front
If an obstacle is detected 🚧, the robot stops ⛔
It turns left or right ↩️↪️ to avoid the obstacle and continues moving ▶️

Main parts: Arduino board , ultrasonic sensor , motor driver , DC motors with wheels , battery , and chassis .

Purpose: It is a beginner robotics project used to learn Arduino programming, sensors, and robot movement.
