What you are going to need is a piece of clay, a straw, a marker, a ruler and a glass of tap water.
You put the clay onto the bottom of the straw and make sure that it floats. Then mark the level where the water is. This is your zero point. Then make marks one centimeter apart along the length of the straw.
That is just how quick and easy it is to make your own hydrometer at home.
