How to Make A Leather Pirate Treasure Map / World Map For Skully - Leatherwork

How to make a leather pirate treasure map - burned into cow hide with a pyro pen, dyed with a sponge and finished with oil.

A very different build from my usual work, and one of the most fun I have had in the shop.

🛠️ HOW IT WAS MADE
Cow hide, chosen for its grain. The whole map is engraved with a pyro pen, which burns the drawing permanently into the leather - no ink to fade, no lines to rub off.
The ageing comes from leather dye applied with a sponge rather than a brush or dauber: that is what gives the blotchy, weathered look you see on screen. Two coats of leather oil to seal and protect it.

⚓ THE STORY
Mister Skully, the skull companion of Captain Brett McAfee, got lost in Dimension B-13 and needed a map to find his way home. Brett's channel: youtube.com/channel/UCPqU-cg2Ko_Q1Q0SamoZt4w
This is also the first video where I speak and act on camera. Intimidating. Worth it.
