How to make Three Dots and a Dash to celebrate V for Victory!

This week, we mark the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII. After over 3 ½ years of fighting and over 400,000 American lives lost, formal surrender documents were signed aboard the USS Missouri, in Tokyo Bay, Japan, on September 2nd, 1945. Tonight, we will be making “Three Dots and a Dash”, named for the letter “V” in Morse code, in honor of Victory Over Japan Day.

This tiki classic was created during WWII by the godfather of the genre himself, Donn Beach. The name means “victory” in Morse Code. San Francisco’s modern tiki mecca Smuggler’s Cove adapted this version from Beachbum Berry’s Sippin’ Safari.

---- Recipe ----
Serves one
1 dash Angostura bitters
½ oz. fresh lime juice
½ oz. fresh orange juice
½ oz. honey syrup (1:1)
¼ oz. Falernum (homemade)
¼ oz. Allspice Dram (homemade)
1½ oz. Rhum (Rhum Agricole is traditional, but we used Rhum Barbancourt)
½ oz. blended aged rum

Garnish: 3 maraschino cherries on a cocktail pick plus a pineapple wedge and frond (thus illustrating the name)

Add all the ingredients to a shaker tin. Fill with 12 ounces of crushed ice, shake for 15 seconds, and pour contents into a pint glass. Top with more crushed ice and add garnish.
