Description from the creator

Using a rototiller effectively means going with the machine, not fighting it — here's how to use the Earthquake Victory tiller to prep a garden bed in one pass without destroying the tines.

First-time tiller users usually fight the machine, digging in hard and burning through the engine. The right technique: make your first pass shallow (2–3 inches) to break the surface, then a second pass deeper (6–8 inches) after turning perpendicular. This two-pass method loosens compacted soil far more effectively than one brutal deep pass. On the Earthquake Victory, the tines are counter-rotating — this pulls the machine forward instead of pushing it, which is a significant advantage on hard soil.

TOOLS USED:
→ Stanley FatMax Tape Measure 25 ft: amzn.to/3kgGJ02
→ DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Impact Driver: amzn.to/3GAb94M

Clear ALL rocks and debris before tilling. A rock hit at speed bends tines and can become a dangerous projectile. Do a slow manual inspection of the bed before starting the engine.

PRO TIP: Till when the soil is slightly moist — not wet, not dry. Squeeze a handful: it should hold a shape but crumble when you prod it. Wet soil clumps and compacts; dry clay soil shatters without breaking down properly.
