Even if you only have a few cows or acres, rotational grazing is the only way to go. Some people think it takes too much time, but feeding hay takes more! Rotational grazing means happier animals and happier farmers. It's a win all around. Using rotational grazing, we can raise 3 or 4 steers on 2.5 acres when it couldn't support 2 cows with free access. Grass can do amazing things if you feed it and give it a rest. And cows can restore depleted pasture if you manage it correctly. Give this method a try. You'll be amazed at the results. Joel Salatin and Greg Judy are doing it on a large scale, but we can do the same thing on a small scale.
