Sweaty feet is quite embarrassing and can lead to significant foot odor and fungal infections. Each foot has over 300,000 sweat glands in it, making it among the most parts of our body that perspire.
Emotion and stress can increase sweating in the feet, as well as hormonal changes. It's quite common in teenagers, as well as pregnant women. Some people just sweat more than others, and it runs in the family.
What can you do if you have sweaty feet? There are some simple home techniques that you can use to effectively deal with excessive perspiration. My favorite is soaking your feet in tea. A tea soak consists of taking six bags of tea, boiling it in a quart of water, and letting it cool. Try to make it the color of Snapple. Soak your feet every day for 10 minutes at a time, and then every other day, and then every third, every fourth, etc., until you're soaking about once a week. This is a nice, holistic way of dealing with sweaty feet, and it's perfectly safe for children.
Another technique that I like is to use an over-the-counter antiperspirant. I prefer a hypoallergenic that is not a deodorant. Apply in the evening, before you go to bed, and you should see a significant improvement.
If you continue to experience sweaty feet, go see your podiatrist. We can often prescribe stronger medications that can effectively deal with the problem. Powders are also a good way at decreasing perspiration. A small amount of talcum powder, or baby powder, or antifungal powder, after your foot is completely dry from the shower, is another effective way of decreasing perspiration.
