Aeration plus catalytic carbon removes hydrogen sulfide odor from well water without constantly injecting peroxide; that is what the 5900-BT AIR sulfur filter does, aerating in the top of the tank and filtering through a catalytic coconut-shell carbon bed. The optional peroxide feature draws a few ounces of 3-7% hydrogen peroxide into the carbon during each backwash, which scrubs the carbon and stops slime and bacteria from growing in it; the peroxide breaks down to oxygen and water. The valve backwashes automatically at night every 4-7 days. Most homes use the 1.5 cu ft size; 2.0 and 2.5 cover larger homes, and units can run in parallel for high flow.
