Here's how to stick to your diet and how to make dieting easy even while going to a very low bodyfat percentage.

My 3 favorite techniques for sticking to a diet:

#1 - Plan until it becomes second nature

Often we go for a diet without having any clear idea of how to get our calories and macros. This can drain our will-power very fast.

And what I've done when I first started out is have a solid Plan A I could stick to most of the time.

How to plan this for yourself?

Plan when you're going to shop for healthy groceries, the exact location and time.

Plan what you're going to eat, design your own meal plan, figure out a list of foods you need to buy.

Plan the meals within a day and know when you're going to eat what.

You don't need to do it forever but initially, it can be very helpful.

The key here is to be very specific and write things down. You can use a calendar app that will remind you.

Instead of "I'm gonna eat more healthy this week" you are much more likely to achieve your goal if you say "On Wednesday 5 PM I'm going shopping for healthy food."

#2 - Connect Your Diet To Your Identity and sense of self

Are you a vegetarian or do you know someone who is? Do they eat meat? Of course not. And not only that.

It seems they rarely struggle with that decision the way most people struggle to stick to their diet.

What's going on there? There's nothing magical about being a vegetarian but we can learn something from this.

The decision not to eat meat is connected to the person's identity. It's a personal value, a pre-made decision and the way of life.

If asked the answer is not "I can't eat that." or "I'm not sure if I can eat that." it's more like "I don't eat that."

This is a very powerful way of long term behavior change and can be done both for diet and exercise.

Spend some time thinking about what kind of person do you want to be.

Are you the kind of person that fails their diet and overeats junk food?

Are you the kind of person who can keep a promise you made to yourself?

Think about that, and once you make that shift not only will you be able to stick to your diet but you can apply this to all areas of your life.

#3 - Change your environment, make life easier on yourself-

If you look at most people they typically keep a lot of highly palatable, junk food in the house. What kind of environment is this?

Is that environment more likely to get you lean and healthy or does it promote over-eating and wasting your will-power?

My favorite rules for home are:
- Have at least a few servings of protein ready to eat.
- Keep the fridge loaded with veggies and fruits.
- Remove processed snacks from plain sight. Or just don't keep it in the house.

If you can't control yourself with certain foods keep them out of the house while you're learning how to keep track of your calories and macros (using tools like MyFitnessPal)

Once you master tracking you can easily fit some of those foods back into the diet but in the beginning, save you will-power.
