Here's the link to "Renegade Power", the piece I reference throughout this whole video: youtube.com/watch?v=GNP-Pteh2wU&list=PLXufP…

I've always LOVED Chopin's music. He's my favorite composer of all time. So of course... when I started composing for myself I modeled a lot of pieces after his style.

After playing and listening to a lot of his work, you start to notice patterns: similar techniques and compositional styles he uses over and over in lots of pieces.

And you can USE the same techniques and style to compose your OWN music. In this video, I mainly go into the structure, using a Theme and Variations model, especially going into Harmonic Variation.

You'll notice Chopin often times doesn't use Melody as the main hook in his pieces (which is counter to almost all of western music today). Instead, he often focuses on Harmonic Progression to keep the piece interesting.

Anyway, enjoy the video! And if you want to see me playing some Chopin music, here's the link: youtube.com/watch?v=1qk78WdDMIw
