Description from the creator

In this video, we talk about researched ways to clean, sanitize and disinfect dishes.
This is what you need to do whether you have a dishwasher or wash your dishes by hand.

If someone in your house has the flu or a virus, it's important to step up your dishes routine.
We present the CDC and researched methods to limit the spread.

These are things you probably don’t think about or take very seriously but are extra important when someone is sick. Like the person who's sick should have their own plate, glass and silverware that is kept separate from others.

METHOD 1: Use a Dishwasher - with a sterilizing cycle if it has one.

And even if you use a dishwasher, there are certain steps you still need to take to avoid contamination that we’ll cover in this video.

METHOD 2: Wash Dishes By Hand
Step 1: Sanitize the Sink

Step 2: Wash the dishes. Use hot water and dish detergent (we like Dawn or Dawn Ultra) and some sort of scrub or brush.

Temperature range between 95-120 degrees Fahrenheit. Wear gloves so you don't burn yourself.

Step 3: Rinse You need the hottest water for this step. Remove with utensil or clean hands/gloves.

At this point, the dishes need to be clean and not have grease on them.

Food or grease buildup won't allow the disinfectant to get through.

Step 4 Disinfect
Hot water method
Chlorine bleach solution method: Soak dishes for at least 1minute in a sanitizing solution. Add 1 tablespoon of chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of water.

Step 5 Dry the Dishes
How you dry your dishes and utensils also plays an important role in kitchen sanitation.

We discuss the least effective to most effective ways to dry dishes and how to disinfect dish towels and sponges.

The best way to keep dishcloths clean, other than replacing them regularly, is to use the microwave. See video for study, power and length needed (article referenced below).

FACTS
Many people think that if something looks clean, it's safe.

However, a kitchen can look perfectly clean but still have a lot of bacteria and germs.

Do you know the difference between cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting? We go over that.

Cleaning removes grease, food residues, and dirt, as well as a large number of bacteria. But cleaning can spread bacteria around too.

And there you have it! The most effective ways to clean, sanitize and disinfect your dishes.

We hope this information is straightforward and practical so that you can use it in your own home.
