How to Cut Glass: Secrets of a clean cut

Summarises the tricks of the trade for getting a clean cut. The cutter was about 2USD from aliXP.

The glass was reused.

Put cardboard down.
Don't put much pressure into the cut.
Never cut twice - get it right first time.
Practice your swing. I did not and found that I could not finish a long cut with finesse because the glass was ending further to the rear of where I could swing my hand to.
Wetting the blade with white spirit or nail polish remover (acetone). I now realise that this cutter is made to hold white-spirit of paraffin (kerosine) in the handle so that the blade is kept wet.
Using part of an aluminium window frame bar beneath the glass to break it.
Use the ball at the end of the glass cutter to help propagate a crack by tapping along your cut prior to breaking.
And of course, use gloves not your slippers! But then, slippers protect the hands pretty well. For double protection use gloves and slippers.
