I'mma Half Life veteran. Basically, there's this engine wheel shaped thing underneath that is just narrow enough for the player to fit into, but not narrow enough for the ichthyosaurr to attack you in. This is helpful for newbies because rather than spraying and praying in the water hoping to get a shot and sponging damage, you can do this safely.
