Video Script:
Here's my 12-step system for achieving a muscular body after the age of 40:

**Step 1:** Let go of old habits. Don't be content with a sedentary lifestyle. Embrace life and choose to live it fully. Transform from the inside out, appreciate life's small joys, help others, reconnect spiritually, and develop self-respect. These choices will ignite your desire to reinvigorate your body by hitting the gym.

**Step 2:** Understand that 80% of your bodybuilding success depends on your diet. It's crucial to grasp this concept. Even the best training and supplements won't yield results if you neglect your diet. This is what sets the achievers apart from the average. A proper muscle-building diet can be found here: [link](gertlouw.com/2014/10/27/muscle...) and a cutting diet here: [link](gertlouw.com/2014/08/16/cuttin...).

**Step 3:** Customize your diet to your unique body. No two bodies respond identically to the same diet. Regularly assess how your body has reacted to the diet over two-week periods to determine whether you've lost muscle weight (bad), fat (good), or both (bad). Then, adjust your diet accordingly. This process isn't as complex as it might seem.

**Step 4:** Respect your body's recovery capacity. After 40, recovery and growth take longer. Aim for a balanced training routine of 4 days per week, preferably on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Avoid training less than 4 days, as this increases the risk of injury and hampers muscle growth. Sessions shouldn't exceed 90 minutes, ideally lasting around 50 minutes.

**Step 5:** Adapt your training to your age. Divide your training into distinct phases:
- **Building Phase (3 months):** Perform 6-8 reps per set, pushing to complete muscle failure on each set.
- **1-week Rest**
- **Cutting Phase (3 months):** Aim for 12-20 reps per set with weights 30% lighter, avoiding total muscle failure.
- **1-week Rest**
- **Repeat**

**Step 6:** During the growth phase, train each set to absolute muscle failure. This principle is essential for progress. True failure means you're mentally and physically incapable of lifting that weight for another set. This intense commitment to failure is the key to substantial growth. Those who shy away from pushing their limits will remain in the realm of mediocrity.
