There is a secret sauce to getting your claims to process and pay. The process starts with benefits verification to ensure that the demographics are accurate and the insurance is active. Ensure it is set up in the dental software accurately. Next, is clean claim submission and clearing any submission rejections. Ensure all attachments like xrays and narratives go with major procedures. Any claims that reject during submission need to be reviewed, corrected, and resubmitted. Many times the patient will need to update the current dental plan or provide you with other accurate information. Finally, follow up on all unresolved claims at 30 days aging every 2 weeks until the claim pays. Call the insurance company to determine why the claim is not processing, correct the errors, and resubmit the claim. When the claims pays, enter the insurance check, transfer any remaining balance to the patient, and send the patient a statement.
