HOW TO GET DRIVERS LEARNERS PERMIT IN TEXAS, USA // PART I

On June 1, Monday I went to the DPS office or Texas Department of Public Safety here in Levelland texas to get the driver’s permit so that I can start practicing on how to drive a car. But before I went there I made an appointment online which is can be done on their website.

So when I got there, they asked my Appointment confirmation, then I checked in on their kiosk.

After that the officer instructed me to be seated and give her the following documents:

- SSN or social security card
- Notice of Action 1 for Adjustment of Status Application (form i-797c)
As proof that my Green Card Application or application to register permanent residence is still pending.

-Passport with visa
-Application form (DL-14A)
-marriage certificate
-proofs of residency: we provide our electric bill and car insurance policy under my husband’s name.

And then the officer gave us a paper, it’s a TEXAS RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT signed by me and my husband.

After that, she asked me if how old am I. I said 24. And asked me again if I did Driver Education- adult online course. I said no. so she said that I need to finish the 6 hrs online course before I can take the written exam. She advised me to bring the certificate of Completion once I already finish the online course.

So I went home and I registered to I DRIVE SAFELY online to take 6 hrs course. I paid 40 dollars in able to start my Driver Education Adult Online Course.

So that’s part 1 of my experience on getting a driver’s learner permit here in texas.
