Description from the creator

Hey everyone! Today we're going to teach you how to keep fiddler crabs alive for multiple days on end! This would be important if you maybe didn't have a hot bite the day you used them, bought too many, or wanted to purchase them ahead of time so you're ready on the morning of your fishing venture. You can also obtain your own fiddler crabs by hunting for them. If you are unfamiliar with how to do this refer to our 'How to Catch Fiddler Crabs' video here: 👉 youtu.be/osqam9gzy1U. Because we teach our fishing lessons and kayak fishing charters from "bait to plate" we like to teach people the entire process in the instance that they're interested in fishing like us. That being said, keeping your fiddler crabs fresh and healthy will be important when you bring all these little guys home in the hopes of BIG fish tomorrow! It's a pretty simple process and all you need is a bucket, maybe a shovel (optional), and a way to get your hands on some fiddler crabs! Now, pay attention because we're going to tell you a big tip here. Fiddler crabs only come out when it's warm! This means you will only find them when it's warm and therefore will only 'keep' them if it's warm! If you know your nights are going to get chilly or the car ride home might involve some cooler inclement weather then we suggest you either leave them behind or find a way to comfort their sensitive body temperatures. There's not much to them (mostly shell), so you can imagine how quickly they may get cold. Same goes for overheating! They don't like it too hot either. This is where the sand will become important. The sand (just like dirt) keeps their temperatures regulated and since the sand they reside in is always near the water...it stays wet and cool (or warm in instances where its cold outside). You have to become one with the sand if you're going to live or play in Florida so wrap your mind around collecting a little and bringing it in the car with your crabs. In the instance that you have fished all your bait or no longer need them, you can always take the crabs and/or the sand back to the sea where you found them! Even dead crabs will be a treat to something out there if you missed one. And we can promise you don't want them lingering around the house or yard any longer than they have to once they've deceased. If you know anything about the sea's creatures it's that they usually stink once they die. A lot! If you haven't experienced this first hand let us save you a trip down that road by taking First Mate Janel's word for it! We hope you learn something from our video above. Fiddler crabs are great bait that we enjoy using often! Please comment below and let us know how you use them or what you do to preserve them well. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on the water! 😎
