Description from the creator

Packing your rucksack in the correct way will improve balance, posture and comfort when carrying everything you need for your trip,. Packing your pack wrongly will cause discomfort, making it harder for you to complete your journey.

I am an army veteran and teach outdoor education and this is the way I was taught in the army and how I now teach my students to pack and carry all their equipment for hikes and expeditions.

Tips:
The key to a well packed rucksack/backpack is organisation and a balanced load distribution.

Sleeping Bag/Quilt and Dry Clothes place in a separate waterproof bag to keep them dry and away from other equipment.

Use zip lock clear bags or dry bags to separate equipment, i.e. food keep together, cooking equipment and clothes clean or dirty all in separate bags.

Tent Poles separate from tent bag and slide them down the back to one side of the interior of the rucksack.

Main part of tent (flysheet and inner tent) put at top of rucksack to the back so rests on your shoulders.

All items you use in the daytime, lunch, snacks, waterproof jacket etc. keep to the top of the rucksack.

Always pack your rucksack the same way - making it easier to find things.

Refer back to the diagram at the end of the video on packing

When carrying the rucksack - 70% of weight should go on your hips via the hip belt and 30% on your shoulders for more comfort and better posture.
