How To Spend Less Time on Your Phone
ChannelMatt RaglandChapters
Description from the creator
In my opinion, the smartphone is the most incredible piece of technology ever created. But it just might be ruining your life. In this video I'll show you how to break the twitch of constant phone checking and FOMO by following a few simple steps.
This video is #sponsored by Visible, a new phone service that you need to check out: bit.ly/visible-matt. They have no hidden fees, unlimited data (at speeds up to 5 mbps), messages, minutes and hotspot on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. I also love the certainty customers have when it comes to the bill - it’s $40/month, every month.
Timeline!
00:00 - Why this matters
02:28 - The reason I was concerned about screen time
05:00 - What you could do with "recaptured" time
06:22 - How to customize screen time limits on the iPhone
07:42 - The benefits of reduced screen time
10:40 - Outro you won't watch but claps and hearts if you do
My goal for this video is to help you save time and cut back on screen time for more important things, and Visible has the same objective - streamlining something we've all previously thought to be an unavoidable time waste into a truly simple set up design.
I'll be showing you how to do all of this on an iPhone. The introduction of screen time tracking has been one of my favorite feature additions to iOS in recent years. There’s a great post from Google on their digital wellbeing stance here: wellbeing.google/
I'm not against phones, I made my first 50 YouTube videos on an iPhone - many of you are probably watching this on your smartphone! What I am against is the how much attention our phones take from us every single day.
So what I'm showing you today is how to cut your screen time in half with just a few steps. Nothing drastic, but enough to truly get your head out of your apps.
I was spending at least 2 hours a day on my phone, with about 75% of that being Twitter, Instagram, Slack, Gmail, YouTube, the usual suspects. What's kinda insidious about it is the time is made up of these 3-5 minute slices.
You don't think about the amount of time because it's rare to spend 20-30 minutes straight on a phone. You don't notice it as much, it's just you pick up the phone every few minutes all day.
Now all together friends, let's take out our phones and take back control of our attention.
