How to Keep Animals out from Under Your House using hardware cloth as a physical permanent barrier. Skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, and raccoons can all be easily discouraged from going under your home by installing hardware cloth or other welded wire mesh.

On this recent inspection, Maine Wildlife Management found where skunks had previously tried to get under the house. The previous owners had installed hardware cloth securely, and buried it properly in the ground to prevent animals from getting under the house.

Trapping is always a short term solution, while reducing the draws(like bird feed) and physical barriers to prevent access are long term solutions.
