Description from the creator

Learn how to properly collect a DNA sample using a Buccal Swab collection kit from Pathway Genomics.

Taking care to properly collect your DNA will help ensure that enough genetic material is captured to properly isolate and analyze your DNA and prevent you from having to resubmit another sample.

----------------------------------
Instructions

Before you begin the collection process, It is important to:

-Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, chewing gum, and brushing your teeth for at least 30 minutes prior to collecting your sample
-Wash or sanitize your hands prior to handling tubes or swabs
to avoid contamination

Then follow these steps to collect your DNA:

-Remove swab collection tubes from plastic wrapper and discard wrapper
-Write your name, date of birth, and date of collection on both labels (located on the back of your instruction card)
-Affix one label to each collection tube
-Carefully remove the swab from the tube, taking caution to avoid touching the swab tip to any surface
-Using the same force as brushing your teeth, rub and rotate the swab along the inside of one cheek for ~45 seconds, making sure that the entire swab tip has made contact with your cheek
-Remove swab from your mouth, taking caution not to touch swab tip against teeth, lips, or other surface
-Place swab directly into the collection tube, making sure the top cap is tightly closed
-Repeat steps 4 - 6 with the second swab on the inside of the opposite cheek
-Place both collection tubes in the pre-paid shipping bag, seal and mail back to our lab
