▶ About this video: This video will show you how to replace all the straight quotes (" ") in a Word document into smart "curly" quotes (“ ”).

The video outlines how to do this using double quotes however the steps will also work for replacing straight single quotes/apostrophes with their curly equivalents.

STEPS

Step 1: Enable Replacing Straight Quotes with Smart Quotes
We first have to make sure the default option that automatically replaces Straight quotes with the Smart ones has not been turned off. This setting can be found by going to:

Word 2007/2010/2013/2016: File - Options - Proofing - AutoCorrect Options... - AutoFormat | AutoFormat As You Type
Word 2003: Format - AutoFormat - Options - AutoFormat | AutoFormat As You Type
Inside these two tabs ensure the option "Straight Quotes" with “Smart Quotes” is enabled.

Step 2: Use Find and Replace to Batch Replace Quotes
Open the Find and Replace window and in the Find what box enter a double (") or single quote (') then in the Replace with box enter the same quote.

Click the Replace button and that's it.

If you found this video useful don't forget to like and share it with your family, friends and workmates that use Microsoft Word.

Cheers!
