CAUTION: NEVER mix different types of chlorine together, or even store them next to each other. They are volatile and can spontaneously combust or even explode. Chlorine storage and handling are very important. Always use protective gear like gloves and safety glasses.

Calcium Hypochlorite (cal hypo)
Sodium Hypochlorite (liquid chlorine, or bleach)
Trichlor (stabilized chlorine tablets)

How to add chlorine to a pool
For dry, granular chlorine (granular dichlor, trichlor or cal hypo) the procedure is much the same as adding sodium bicarb or calcium chloride. Pre-dissolve in a bucket of water, then pour in the perimeter of the pool. Always measure and dose accurately after testing water chemistry. You can use the Orenda app for an exact dose of chlorine.

For tablet chlorine (trichlor or cal hypo tabs), a specialized feeder is often required. NEVER put trichlor in a cal hypo feeder or vice versa. This is extremely dangerous! Orenda does recommend against using chlorine floaters of any kind...especially floaters that look like a rubber ducky or shark. When swimmers are in the pool, remove any floaters.

For liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite), measure and pour around the perimeter of the pool, or in front of a return inlet that flows water into the pool. Dose properly and do not pour into the skimmer directly.

Do not at ANY type of chlorine directly into the skimmer. Doing so can cause damage to the equipment and cause other problems.
