Learning to hit a topspin forehand or backhand in tennis can be quite a fast process if you apply "rolling the ball" drill above.

The usual teaching of the top spin groundstrokes in tennis says that you need to lower your racquet below the ball and then brush up on the ball.

While that may look like it in slow motion just a moment before contact, in reality the acceleration of the racquet head into topspin forehand or backhand is a much more dynamic process and has to be learned that way.
