POV Skate Tutorial #2: How to POP SHOVE IT
ChannelSkateboard BruhDescription from the creator
This video will teach you how to pop shove it in no time! I’m teaching you how to pop shove it from your position of view.
Today is the second position of view tutorial and today I‘ll be teaching you how to Pop shove it.
The Pop shove it is also a very basic trick, it’s definitely a beginner trick. Make sure you learn how to pop shove it the proper way because if you get better at skateboarding later on, you need this trick for varial kickflips , 360 shove its, tre flips, you name it!
Before you learn the pop shove it, you want to be able to ride around on a skateboard. Try to make sure that you’re comfortable on a skateboard in general. Also, a trick you should learn before this one, is the Ollie. Being able to Ollie will help you to pop your board for the pop shove it. You can check out my other Ollie tutorial for that one. Some people might tell you to learn 180’s first but this is the order I remember learning ‘em and you don’t need 180’s for this trick. I also don’t really like people to follow a certain pattern in learning tricks, yes for some tricks you need to learn other tricks first but skateboarding is not freakin school and also, every skater picks up certain tricks faster than others.
Before jumping right into the pop shove it, I do recommend you trying shove its or fakie shove its first. Those are easier but the concept is exactly the same, except for the popping part. Now, I’ll be explaining how to pop shove it but you can easily apply my explanation to shove its and fakie shove its also. Just don’t think about the popping part at first.
How to pop shove it for beginners feet:
So let’s get into the foot-positioning. Place your front foot right beneath the front bolts. It helps to place it with a little bit of an angle so it’s not in the way when you start scooping your board. Place your back foot on your tail and place it a little bit more forward than you would for an Ollie. This helps you to scoop your board better. Shift your shoulders a bit so you can guide your board when popping. Now you got your foot-positioning done and if you’re regular it’ll look like this.
Now, let’s take a look at the movement. The movement I’m talking about in my videos is the movement which has to do with your board when you’re jumping up, so this is after bending your knees. Step 1: Use your back foot to scoop the tail while popping the board. If done correctly your board will start to make a 180 degree rotation. For this rotation you don’t use your front, it’s really all in your back foot. In the video you can see my front foot just going up not touching the board as soon as I start to scoop. Step 2: Stay above your board. Watch your board spin and let your front foot hover above your board so you can stay in control. Step 3: catching and landing. When your board has made a full 180 degree rotation, catch it with both of your feet and land. Bend your knees when landing to spread out the impact over your body.
Remember that you wanna do these steps while jumping up and really put some effort in your tries. It helps to practice these movements step by step slowly so you really know how to do it. You don’t wanna spend too much time on that though cause in skateboarding you learn more by actually doing it. Beginner tip
As I said in the beginning you can start learning shove its first, try ‘em fakie or standing still but eventually you gotta do ‘em just riding regular cause that’s what you want to be able to do. Start out slow and just build up your speed.
Common mistakes with this trick is that you won’t be able to rotate your board enough and it’ll just rotate 90 degrees. If this is the case for you, just try to scoop your board harder and faster. Another mistake is that people land this trick with one foot only, most of the time their front foot. In this case try to land it with your backfoot only and after that try to really hover above your board and land it with both feet. beginners
Once you got this trick down, it’s really fun to do a little shove it or pop shove it while cruzing. It’s a handy trick to just turn your board around and get your nose forward without stopping. You can also do ‘em over stuff. And that’s how to pop shove it
Thanks for watching everyone!
