Do you know what's common between the following personalities?.

Robin Williams.

Guru Dutt.

Jiah Khan.

Sushant Singh Rajput.

Yes Unfortunately they all committed suicide.

That too Inspite of being millionaires & extremely popular.

That brings up to the most important question.

In the pursuit of making wealth are we taking enough care of our mental health?.

How to take care of your mental health & prevent suicidal thoughts.

Did you know in India every year on an average 1.3 Lakh indians commit suicide.

That's 366 suicidal deaths every day.

One suicide every 4 mins.

Shocking isn't it.

80% of the suicide victims are literate.

India's suicide rate is at 17 suicides per lakh people.

Maharashtra tops the list with karnataka in second position followed by Tamil Nadu.

Nearly 70 % of all suicide deaths in India involve males.

More than 60% of suicides in India are in the age group of 15-35.

So what can we do to help prevent suicidal behavior and encourage better mental health?.

Here are 5 things you can do for the same.

#1 Stop Judging people who seek mental help.

What would you do if your leg gets fractured?.

You would probably go to the doctor and get it fixed.

You are comfortable doing so because no one looks at a fractured person as a crazy person.

But suddenly if someone seeks mental help.

They become a topic for dinner table conversation for all.

And that makes it too embarrassing for them to seek help.

Seeking Mental help is as normal as fixing a fracture.

So Stop Judging someone who seeks help it doesn't make them any less of a human.

If you sense someone needs help then approach them and just ask.

"You seem a little low Would you like to talk about it? Maybe I can help."

#2 - Be empathetic.

Listen to people genuinely if and when they share about what they are going through.

Never shrug off threats of suicide as typical melodrama.

These are red flags you should be aware of if you sense them then straightaway ask professional help from AASRA 91-9820466726. "Sometimes I wish I could just go to sleep and never wake up."

"Everyone would be better off without me."

"You won't have to worry about me much longer."

If you hear someone say that the worst thing would be to react like .

What are you, crazy?!".

Instead say this.

"I see You must really really be hurting inside."

I am here for you to listen to you non judgmentally.

Also What do you think might make you feel better?.

#3 Avoid Isolation.

If you are in depression yourself or know someone who is then ensure you don't leave them in isolation. Group energy helps build morale in individuals.

So a quick video call or revisiting old family pictures would go a long way in boosting morale.

#4 Minimum Expectations.

If you are going through depression then do not overwhelm yourself with burden of responsibilities.

Make sure to divide large tasks into smaller more manageable ones.

Whenever possible participate in favorite low-stress activities.

The goal is to rebuild confidence and self-esteem.

Also Do not compare yourself with your peers.

You have your own battles to deal with.

Remember You are unique & that is your power.

#5 - Physical Exercise.

Physical activity as simple as SuryaNamaskar can put the brakes on mild depression.

Working out causes a gland in the brain to release endorphins a substance believed to improve mood and ease pain. Endorphins also lower the amount of cortisol in the circulation.

Cortisol a hormone has been linked to depression.

Exercise distracts people from their problems and makes them feel better about themselves.

Experts recommend working out for 30 minutes everyday.

In addition to this when you meet someone new have better conversations instead of asking.

What do you do ?.

Our whole life goes in coming up with an answer to this question which would be socially respected.

This in turn adds tremendous pressure on us every single day.

So next time instead of asking others what do you do?.

Simply ask "How are you feeling today?".

Because A Suicide doesn't take away the pain it just passes it to someone else.

You have the courage within you to say "This is not how my story will end".

The World is always a better place with you in it.

So Don't Lose hope as When the Sun goes down the stars come up to light up the sky.
