Install LaTeX and Texmaker Editor on Ubuntu Linux (Step-by-Step Guide)

This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a complete LaTeX environment on your Ubuntu system, including the powerful Texmaker editor.

Prerequisites
Ensure your system is connected to the internet and you have administrative privileges to run sudo commands.

Step 1: Install the TeX Live Distribution
First, you need to install the core TeX Live LaTeX distribution, which contains the necessary engines, fonts, and packages.
Open your terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and run the following command to install the full distribution:

sudo apt install texlive-full
Note: This is a large download (several gigabytes) and may take some time depending on your internet connection.

Step 2: Install the Texmaker LaTeX Editor
Next, install Texmaker, a popular and feature-rich integrated development environment (IDE) for writing LaTeX documents.

Run the following command in your terminal:

sudo apt install texmaker

Step 3: Launch Texmaker
Once the installation is complete, you can start using Texmaker.
You can launch it from your applications menu.
Alternatively, you can quickly open Texmaker directly from the terminal by typing:

texmaker

Are you new to LaTeX, or are you switching from a different editor like TeXstudio or Overleaf?
