How to Make Glue Sponges | Using Glue Sponges | Mrs. D's Corner
ChannelStephanie DeLussey - Mrs. D's CornerDescription from the creator
GLUE SPONGES • Have you tried them? Are you tired of smashed glue sticks, missing lids, or even kids eating the glue?😵 I know, I know.
-
A few years ago when I started teaching self contained, I quickly learned that glue sticks were not cutting it for my kids. So I spent about $6 on sponges and square sandwich containers @walmart and made glue sponges.
-
Put the sponge in the container. Add glue. Let it sit overnight. Then use!
-
No more missing caps. No more dripping glue off of projects. No more smashed glue sticks. And no more biting glue sticks (don’t ask🤫).
-
Glue sponges are inexpensive to make and, on average, I only have to add glue to a sponge twice a year (once at the start of the year and once around December-January, ya know... mid year).
-
Yes, we have many lessons on how to use glue sponges. Not only to teach use, but also investigate the sensory-aspects of it (it’s a wet sponge that smells like glue and makes your fingers sticky... it’s a lesson you’ll need to teach).
-
You can use any container that shuts completely. Small containers, large containers. I always see the perfect sponge size containers at @homegoods And @tjmaxx ... like the double container you see me using at the end of the video.
-
Yes, the sponges will grow mold if you leave them open continuously (and they’ll dry out faster). So make sure the lids are on tight when you put them away.
-
And yes, when my students went to inclusion and specials they used whatever glue was available in that classroom. Just because we used glue sponges does not mean we did not practice using liquid glue or glue sticks, but in controlled, dedicated lessons to the task. For everything else, we used glue sponges because they’re quicker✔️less messy✔️and going to the counter to grab a glue sponge was a great way to get kids up and moving for a minute here and there throughout the day.✔️
-
The days of the week worksheet is is free in my TpT shop and in the resource library on my website. You can read more about glue sponges here: mrsdscorner.com/gluesspongesinsped/
