Microsoft Excel provides several ways to Password Protect Workbooks. You can assign two types of passwords to workbooks: Password to open and Password to modify the workbooks.

In this tutorial, you will learn How to Password Protect Your Excel Workbook by assigning Open and Read-Only Passwords. Password To Open will protect the workbook by asking the editor to enter a password to open the workbook. An editor/user will only be able to change the content of the worksheet if he enters the Read-Only password else the changes made to the workbook will save to a new separate workbook.
