Adding a secondary SATA drive to your office computer is a great way to expand your data storage capacity and increase security at the same time. Anything that you store on a secondary hard drive remains unaffected in the event that your primary Windows drive becomes unbootable or fails. Unlike older IDE drives, SATA disks have no jumpers and it's not necessary to configure a master/slave relationship between them. As long as you have a Windows drive installed in the system, your computer will recognize the additional drive as a secondary.
STEPS:
1. Shut down the computer and unplug all cables from the tower.

2. Place the computer on a table or desk and remove its side panel. You’ll either need to pull a release latch or remove a few Phillips or thumb screws at the back of the case.

3. Locate the hard drive cage, which is usually at the top front of the case.

4. Install the SATA drive into an available bay in the cage. Depending on the model, you might need to secure the drive directly to the bay with two Phillips screws on each side. If you see a removable plastic bracket inside the empty bay, take it out and secure the drive to it using Phillips screws. The whole assembly should then slide right in. Make sure the drive connectors face outward.

5. Plug a SATA power cable into the long L-shaped connector on the back of your hard drive. One end of the cable should be connected to your computer’s power supply, and the other is a black plug with a matching L-shaped connector.

6. Plug one end of a SATA data cable into the smaller L-shaped connector on the hard drive, and plug the other end into one of the SATA controllers on your computer’s motherboard. The SATA controllers are usually labeled SATA1, SATA2 and so on.

7. Replace the side panel, reconnect the computer and power it back on. If the disk is already partitioned and formatted, Windows will assign a drive letter to it automatically. If the drive is new or newly wiped, you will need to initialize the disk, create a partition and format it before you can use it.

8. Log in to Windows using an administrator account.

the slave hard disk will now be viewed as a different storage.
