There are several ways to 'save' in Audacity. An Audacity Project is the best way to save when you are in the middle of a project. A saved Audacity Project will save all your slider settings, your tracks, etc. Whereas an MP3 or WAV will only give you a sound file with no means to edit.

Saving a project in Audacity is simple, just go to FILE - SAVE PROJECT. That's it. This will create a .AUP file and a data folder.

Many subscribers have asked for help when they cannot reopen their .AUP files. Most times the problem happens when the .AUP file and Data folder are separated. These need to be kept together. So if you need to more your Audacity project be sure to move both the .AUP file and the Data folder.

If you need to email your Audacity project to someone you best bet is to export your recording as an MP3 and send that file. If you must send the project then you will need to send both the .AUP file and the data folder. This may be VERY big so be prepared for that.

Rock on,
Andrew
