If you've got dreams of being a big star, the school play is a great way to start. If you're anything like me, you're already gearing up for your audition. Here's how to get cast. To start, read the play. It sounds obvious, but it's so important. It's probably available at your library or your local bookstore. Don't cheat by just watching the movie, because you want to deliver your own performance, and not someone else's. Right before your audition, it's incredibly important that you warm up. If this is a musical, that means not only are you warming up your speaking voice and your whole body, but you have to warm up your singing voice and your dance moves too. When you get to the audition, it can be difficult not to get nervous, but try as hard as you can to take a deep breath, relax, and be confident that your preparation and your warm-up will carry you through. Show them that you're superstar material. If you don't get cast, or you don't get the part you want, remember that there are no small parts and only small actors. It can be just as fun to work behind the scenes on costumes, or you can run the play as a stage manager.
