One question I get frequently is how to act when you see your ex for the first time, or how to act when you see your ex in public, or even when you see your ex with someone else.

One of the biggest mistakes when people are in this sort of situation is that they try to put on the act of always being happy and upbeat.

This is a mistake however.

After all, if you want to make a positive impression you don’t want to come across as someone who is putting on an act of being happy when you’re not.

If your ex wanted to be with someone who was happy all the time, your ex would have just started dating a clown.

But your ex, like most humans, wants to be in a relationship with someone who feels the full spectrum of emotions. Everything from sadness, fear, anxiety, insecurity, optimism, hope, and, yes, even happiness.

It is our humanity and our emotions that bring us closer together, not the fake mask of happiness.

The same goes for other acts that people put on. One of the most common ones after the “happy” act is the “I’m too cool” act.

You know… acting aloof and distant. Playing hard to get. The whole enchilada. That’s something you want to avoid as well too.

Again, your ex wants to be with someone who feels everything, not someone who is stoic and unfeeling.

If that’s what your ex wanted, they would just go and date a. statue.

Remember, you don’t need to hide who you are. You can express how you feel in a positive way that takes ownership for your emotions, rather than placing responsibility of your emotions on someone else.

So, if you want to know how to act around your ex, don't act.
