This video tutorial will teach you how to create a Shortcut Icon on your Windows 8 Desktop. For this example I have created a Desktop Shortcut Icon for the Calculator. This tutorial will also show you a very useful tip on how to quickly find the location of your desktop shortcut target by utilizing the search facility within the application (Start) menu.

Written Instructions:

1. Right click on the desktop,
2. select 'new' from the menu, then select 'shortcut'
3. Now enter the location of the item you wish to create a desktop shortcut for. To find the file location for your desktop shortcut you can either browse to file location by clicking the 'Browse...' button Or you can use the following tip instead:

a) Go into the start menu at the bottom left corner of the screen,
b) Type the name of the application (eg:calculator),
c) Right click on the item and a menu bar with buttons will appear along the bottom of the screen,
d) Select the 'Open file location' button,
e) A folder window containing the highlighted item you are looking for will appear,
f) Right click the highlighted item within the folder window,
g) Select 'Properties',
h) Copy the highlighted target line,
i) Close any unnecessary windows and paste the target into the 'create shortcut' window.

4. Click next,
5. Change the shortcut name if required and then click 'finish'.
