There are different ways of defending yourself if you’re being pushed by someone.

The first option is to always try and talk yourself out of a fight. If your opponent is responsive and you have the chance to talk yourself out of a fight, then you must take it. The goal is to always avoid fighting at all costs.

Obviously if you’re opponent is not listening to you and a fight is the only way out, then you need to defend yourself.

In this situation, you need to be pre-emptive. You want to be the first person to strike.

If someone starts pushing you, just step out of the way. Move back if you have the opportunity and step out of the way. If you’re able to, you can move to the side so you will be out of his aim.

Another great option is to put your arms in front of you and block his arms. This will break the momentum and avoid you getting pushed.

You can then grab his elbows and either strike him with your knee or with your hands. He won’t be expecting it and you’ll be at an advantage.

The best thing you can do is practice with your partner so you can further develop your technique and timing.
