Description from the creator

If the impaired smell is secondary to an infection, then the infection has to be treated, so the ENT consultant would examine your nose and come up with a diagnosis of infection and put you on some nasal decongestant, some antibiotics if required and some sprays into the nose and within a few day, at the most in a week, you should feel better. If it is secondary to allergy, then you need to be on anti-allergic medications which would may or may not include the use of steroids and then it would open up your nose and then you will start breathing better and you will start smelling better. If there are obstructive causes which are leading to impaired smell, leading to chronic sinusitis, formation of polyps, very badly bent nasal septum, a tumorous growth in the nose, then al these are surgically correctable causes and thy need to be handled surgically and they need to be removed and then you will have a good chance that you will be able to smell. But if it is a post traumatic loss of sense of smell, or age related, then the chances of recovery would be remote.
