Description from the creator

Learn how to change AutoRecover settings in Microsoft Word, including how often Word saves recovery information and where AutoRecover files are stored.

AutoRecover can help you recover recent work if Word crashes, your computer loses power, or the program closes unexpectedly.

*Compatibility note:* This video was originally recorded using Word 2016, but the AutoRecover settings shown are still available in current desktop versions of Microsoft Word, including Microsoft 365 and Word 2024. The interface may look slightly different depending on your version.

*Important:* This older video refers to the feature as “AutoSave,” but the setting demonstrated is actually AutoRecover. AutoRecover saves recovery information periodically; it does not replace regularly saving your document. Microsoft 365 also has a separate AutoSave feature for supported files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
