How To Massage Your Shin
ChannelVive HealthDescription from the creator
If you suffer from shin splints, self-massage can help release muscle knots & speed up healing time.
Placing stress on your lower leg causes inflammation in the connective tissues that attach to the shin bone. This is where massage therapy comes in; massaging your shin splints will work on these connective tissue spots where the adhesions have formed.
Follow along with Dr. David Lee, physical therapist, to learn how to use a lacrosse ball to reduce inflammation & release shin splint trigger points. All you need is a few minutes to get started!
Step 1:
Place the lacrosse ball horizontally at the top of your shin, using your hands and knees to support your body weight.
Step 2:
Roll back and forth, making your way to the bottom of your shin.
**If you find a tender spot, slowly isolate back and forth to focus on that area.
Step 3:
If you aren't in too much pain, you can extend the massage all the way down to your ankle & back up to the top of your shin.
Bonus Massage Technique: Place the lacrosse ball vertically & use your body weight to apply pressure to your shin and any other tender spots.
