Recently we asked our fellow polers about what they felt was holding them back in their pole practice.
We received many responses - from strength related to confidence to pole techniques.
One of the questions was on strengthening your air inverts also known as aerial inversion.
This is how I train aerial inverts in the studio - we spent a lot of time on building up strength.
This sequence takes time to master - I believe it took me 5 months of consistent work to properly air invert.

*First, concentrate on mastering the connections- pit grip, keeping low hands and getting hips in front of pole (hint, I actually turn to the side) And I literally hold this position until I can't any longer (building strength and stamina)
*Second, when I feel ready (meaning when I have done step one several times and ready for a challenge) I draw my knees to my chest as a way to build my core strength. I will do this multiple time as part of my strength training.
*Third, when I ready for a challenge - I work on tilting my hips to the pole - aiming crotch to pole. This is a great exercise to do, especially if you are focussing on straddle air inverts (or Helicopter Air Inverts).

Take note - I don't even invert (until the end) throughout each sequence. My focus is to build up strength and stamina, which in turns makes it easier to air invert.

Hope this helps you!
