Aerial Tutorial - How to do an Aerial - Cartwheel to Aerials
ChannelFit For A FeastDescription from the creator
fitforafeast.com How to do an Aerial cartwheel (no handed cartwheel) for dance, gymnastics, martial arts and other sports. Katrina and Sloane go over several tips on getting an aerial.
This is an advanced lesson. Requirements are to have a cartwheel and one handed cartwheel first and to use gym mats or a soft surface. The best training is from dance studios or gymnastics facilities, but for those that are advanced enough, here are some of our tips on how to do an aerial. (These are just tips for those already working on them or trying to get them better.)
Don't try to do aerials unless you are already very comfortable with cartwheels and one handed cartwheels. You can learn how to do a cartwheel with this tutorial: youtube.com/watch?v=zUkvW65RiX0
Most people find it helpful to also get their one handed cartwheel first. You can learn how with this video: youtube.com/watch?v=ShTbL9efbek
See our tips on this acro trick and other tutorials on the Fitforafeast website and our Youtube channel youtube.com/fitforafeast. You can also see us performing aerials in several of our dance videos - including Katrina's solo: youtube.com/watch?v=CPndGmSUHdw
or Sloane's solo:

Some people find it is easiest to do an aerial when you have momentum - like a running start. If you have trouble stopping yourself from putting your hands down, try holding them at your shoulders - so they are ready if you need them. Then each time you try to do the aerial, count and add on an extra second before you put them down. Make sure that you are jumping up - not just over.
It really helps to do a big plier (bend) as you are going into it and then use the ground to push off and give you height. Whipping your legs around will also help you get it all the way - but again, make sure to practice on a soft surface with supervision - and only if you are fit and have some gymanstics training. Do these at your own risk!
