Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to turn iMessage on or off on an Apple iPhone or iPad.

The iMessage feature on Apple devices lets users who an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Mac with iMessage enabled send messages at no cost to other users with any of those same Apple devices who also have the iMessage feature enabled. The iMessage feature is enabled by default, and you can see it in action any time you see a blue text bubble in the Messages app rather than a green one, indicating that iMessage was used to transmit that message between the two parties. However, if you're transitioning away from an iPhone to another type of smartphone, you'll likely want to disable the iMessage feature shortly before making the switch to make sure you don't miss out on receiving any messages. The following instructions walk you through how to turn the iMessage feature on and off.

And now, the steps to turn iMessage off.

Step 1. Tap to open the "Settings" app on your Apple device's Home screen.

Step 2. Scroll down to the sixth grouping of options, and then tap "Messages." The same green icon with the white speach bubble inside of it that appears with the Messages app on your device appears to the left of Messages in this section. The Messages window opens.

Step 3. Tap the toggle to the right of iMessage until the button in the toggle shifts to the left and the green background turns gray. You will no longer be able to send and receive iMessages on this device.

A "Waiting for Activation" message appears directly beneath the iMessage field. After iMessage is successfully reactivated, that message will change to a message that informs you that iMessages can be sent between iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac devices.
