Description from the creator

Are you looking for the best way to populate your new bee hive? In this video, we explain how to safely catch and install a local swarm of honey bees.

Catching a wild swarm is the most economical way to get locally adapted bees with strong genetics. Before swarm season begins, make sure you have your essential gear ready. You will need a breathable wooden box, a light colored sheet, a bee brush, protective gear, and lemongrass oil.

When you locate a swarm, always make sure it is safe to reach. Once you move the cluster into your box, leave it in place until sundown so the returning scout bees can find it. After dark, close the box securely and gently transport the bees to their new location. The next morning, you can easily install them into their permanent hive. We also explain how to use lemongrass oil as a natural lure to bait swarms directly into a trap.

If you are ready to start natural beekeeping, we have all the equipment you need.
