Description from the creator

Once you have your new bee hive, the next step is finding the perfect bees to live in it! In this video, we explore the best ways to source honey bees for the upcoming season.

Our favorite method is catching a local feral swarm. When a strong colony reproduces in the spring, a swarm will gather nearby while scout bees look for a new home. Catching a swarm is a great way to get local bees with strong genetics that are already adapted to your climate.

If you want a guaranteed source for the spring, you can order a package of bees. A package includes one queen and around ten thousand worker bees, and they can be installed into any hive style. Another popular option is buying a nuc, which is a mini hive that already includes a few frames of built comb, honey, and brood. No matter which method you choose, we highly recommend connecting with your local beekeepers association for advice on your specific area.
