Permissions and editing a version

The owner of the version (the person who creates it) can set who can access the version. Access permission options are as follows:

Private: Only the version owner can view and edit the datasets in that version.
Protected: Any user can view the datasets in the version, but only the owner can edit them.
Public: Any user can view and edit the datasets, provided he or she has been granted permission on the datasets.

Version access is set when the version is created, but it can also be changed on the Version Manager dialog box. See Creating versions and setting access permissions and Working with version properties for more information.

You can edit the data in a specific version in ArcGIS by connecting to a specific version and adding data that has been registered as versioned to ArcMap.
