You could pay $30 for iDefrag or other software to defragment your hard drive. Or you can do it for free and it takes about the same amount of time and it's actually safer than most programs that if some error happens or the power goes out you will lose everything!

NOTE: This ONLY works if you have Mt Lion and you didn't opt out of the hidden restore partition that happens when you install Mt Lion. Also if you have a Solid State Hard Drive aka SSD, this is unnecessary.
Step 1 - Back up your drive with time machine on a separate hard drive.
Step 2 - Restart your computer and hold "COMMAND-R"
Step 3 - Select Restore From Time Machine and you're now defragging my friend! Enjoy the new found performance!
