Annotations:

First, find a font you want to install. There are tons of free fonts on the internet.

Download a font you like, extract the file. A font file can be a .ttf or a .otf file.

All installed fonts are simply .ott or .otf files in a folder on your computer. To find this folder: Start → Control Panel → Appearance and Personalization → Fonts. Place the font file here to install it.

Testing the font: Open a program that supports font use, for instance MS Word

Find your newly installed font under the font drop-down menu

It works!
