How to manually add Music to iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch from iTunes (Step-by-step!)

I’ve explained how you can manually add music to iPhone, iPod or iPod Touch from iTunes library using Computer or Mac step-by-step in this video. This is pretty basic topic but many people face issues while adding music to iPhone from PC, hence I decided to make it simple. So use these simple steps and add songs from iTunes to iPhone.

For adding songs from iTunes to iPhone, you need to have latest version of iTunes which you can download from the link below.

➤ Steps for manually adding music to your iPhone, iPod or iPod Touch from iTunes library:

1. Launch iTunes on your computer or a Mac. 0:30
(Make sure that you have the latest version)

2. Connect your iDevice. 0:33

3. Tap little iPhone icon at top left hand side of the iTunes window. 0:39

4. Now, under ‘Summary’ section, scroll down to ‘Options’. And look for this ‘Manually manage music and videos’ option and select it. 0:49

(This is must have setting if you want to manually add music to iPhone from iTunes. And if you can’t select it and if it is grayed out, most likely you’re a member of Apple Music or you’re subscribed to iTunes Match and you have iCloud Music Library turned on for your Apple ID. When you have iCloud Music Library turned on, you can’t manually manage music. You can only manage videos using iTunes. So, make sure that you are not a member of Apple Music or you’re not subscribed to iTunes Match for manually adding your music from iTunes.) 1:04

5. Now, tap ‘Apply’ button at bottom right hand side of the iTunes window. 1:34

6. Now go and tap little back arrow at top left hand side of the iTunes window. 1:40

7. Now go to ‘File’ & tap ‘Add File to Library..’
(for adding music to iPhone, you need to add music to iTunes Library first) 2:05

8. A browser window will appear. Look for the songs you want to add into iTunes Library. Just select the song and tap ‘Open’. 2:11

9. Now hold and drag the song onto your iPhone in ‘Devices’ section on the left hand side of iTunes window. 2:32

10. Now you just need to sync your iPhone with iTunes. And to do that, just tap little iPhone icon at the top left hand side of the iTunes window, and tap ‘Sync’ at the bottom right hand side of the iTunes window. And your iPhone will start syncing with iTunes. 2:59

11. Done! Go and checkout your new song on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. 3:38

➤ Tip:

You can add music from multiple iTunes Libraries for iPad or iPod but video from only one iTunes Library.

➤ Troubleshooting – If you can’t select ‘Manually manage music and videos’ option while manually adding music to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch:

There could be 2 reasons to it:

1. You're a member of Apple Music
2. OR you’re subscribed to iTunes Match,
and you have iCloud Music Library turned on.

When you have iCloud Music Library turned on, you can't manually manage music.
You can only manage videos using the steps above.
Hence to add songs from iTunes to iPhone, make sure that you’re not a member of Apple Music and you’re not subscribed to iTunes Match.
